Reno Unger is a retired professor from Kutztown University, one of the state owned universities in Pennsylvania and a retired Navy Commander. He and his wife, Nancy moved to Mountain View, Colorado to be near the children and grandchildren in 2019 and have fallen in love with the Western lifestyle and the beautiful scenery, much of which shows up in his artwork.
He has been drawn to art all his life, starting in kindergarten with a work entitled “Two Peanuts in a Red Sack”. In college, he took several art coursed as electives and then life intervened in the form of a hitch in the Navy, wife, children, fifteen more years in the Navy Reserve after active duty etc. etc. Through that time, he managed to squeeze out a few pieces of art and lamented the fact that there was not time for more. He did manage to show some of his work in juried exhibitions around Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland, however.
Shortly after retirement, He ran across the Lakewood Art Gallery and drifted in to check out the work, as was his habit. He ended up joining the gallery and received a lot of encouragement about his work. Since then, art has been a favorite focus of his free time. He has been in juried shows around the area and has won several awards for his works in pen and ink, wood block prints and watercolor. His work can now be seen in the Lakewood, Artcentric and VFW art galleries as well as several businesses in the area.
