Meet Marita

Marita, born and raised in Portland Oregon now resides in Colorado. She has been drawing ever since she can remember, with a special fondness for horses.

She gave up painting after her family arrived in favor of the art of calligraphy, and has taught the beautiful skill of lettering over a span of nearly 50 years. After her girls were old enough to stay out of her art supplies, she returned to drawing; her many years with the pen had improved her eye/hand coordination so those skills came back with ease.

She delights in using graphite with colored pencils as well as ink, and occasionally water media, in her drawings. Marita is also a sculptor and hand-builder of functional pieces in porcelain clay.  She accepts orders for pencil/colored pencil renderings of pet portraits (see info below).

When her husband Tom passed away in 2010, she moved from Priest Lake Idaho to Colorado to be with her youngest daughter when her first grandchild was born in 2010. Her other two daughters live in California, and she is a grandmother, “Mimi”, to seven delightful boys and girls.

Her work can be seen in Colorado at the pARTiculars Art Gallery and Teaching Studio in Lafayette, and the Homestead Fine Art Gallery in Berthoud. For commissions of pet protraits and calligraphic art., Marita can be reached at marita.mcdonough@gmail.com.

Each artist we collaborate with selects a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to receive 10% of our company's profits from their designs at the end of each year. Marita has chosen Colorado Horse Rescue Network as her nonprofit!

Marita does not yet have a website, but here is her bio page on the pARTiculars Gallery site (a local gallery here in Colorado). You can also visit her art at the Homestead Fine Art Gallery in Berthoud, Colorado.
