Reno Unger is a retired professor from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and a retired Navy Commander. He and his wife Nancy moved to Mountain View, Colorado in 2019 to be near their children and grandchildren, and have fallen in love with the Western lifestyle and the beautiful scenery, much of which shows up in his artwork.
He has been drawn to art all his life, starting in kindergarten with a work entitled "Two Peanuts in a Red Sack." Life intervened in the form of the Navy, family, and fifteen more years in the Navy Reserve — but he managed to squeeze out artwork through all of it.
Shortly after retirement, Reno wandered into the Lakewood Art Gallery as was his habit, ended up joining, and received a lot of encouragement about his work. Since then, art has been a favorite focus of his free time. He has won several awards for his work in pen and ink, woodblock prints, and watercolor, and his work can be seen at the Lakewood, Artcentric, and VFW galleries as well as several local businesses.
