Dale always felt he was born 100 years too late. Growing up in Wisconsin during the 1950s and 60s, he fell in love with westerns on television and at the movies, and that love never left him. After graduating from art school in Wisconsin in 1965, he spent 8 years working as a staff artist at an art studio in Milwaukee and an advertising agency in Oshkosh.
In 1973, the lure of the West that had been there since childhood finally drew Dale and his family to Colorado. He has been here ever since, and the mountains have not gotten old yet.
A job at an advertising agency in Fort Collins brought the family west. When that agency closed, Dale went freelance and spent the next several years building a career around the subjects that had always called to him: cowboys, military history, and wildlife. Over that time he has illustrated more than 35 books, mostly about the West and its history.
Now retired from commercial deadlines, Dale spends his time drawing and painting exactly what he wants, at exactly the pace he chooses. With over 60 years of professional experience, he can work in just about any style he puts his mind to.
